I agree that a diversity is typically undervalued as it is difficult to consider something less than the current optimal to be a good idea. I think however the author overstates the multi-stable abilities of nature / evolution. Nature regularly goes through mass monoculture booms with inevitable busts. Like people's greed, animals reproduce until they can't, often because they have exhausted a fragile food or environment. Really enjoyed this post.
